This project consists of the design and establishment of two new schools on one site in Flat Bush

This is a particularly challenging project in that a primary and junior high school are to be accommodated on the same site and in fact share many of the facilities and management.

The design process has been a particularly interesting one in that many of the usual educational design solutions have been reinvented or at least reinterpreted.

This reinvention has been a direct response to the requirements of the new curriculum but also because of a firm belief by the boards and establishment management team that the needs of delivering teaching and learning in the immediate future are changing at such an accelerating rate that we need to respond by looking forward and being innovative with the design of buildings.

ASC Architects have worked with the New Zealand Green Star Council and The Ministry of Education to develop a Green Star Educational rating tool which has been applied to a public school for the first time on this project. The school is due to open in January 2009 and the application for a Green Star rating has been accepted by The Green Star Council.
