The future of our nation, our people and our community is unthinkable without knowledge of our past.

This purpose built facility accommodates both an archive vault for TVNZ’s film multi-media collection and a production library servicing both TVNZ and other international news, film and media production agencies.

An essential component of the brief was to facilitate immediate access to documents whilst ensuring the cultural heritage of the collection is preserved and kept alive as an object of research and enrichment.

The building was designed as a sum of two parts. The first is the Archive Vault to house and protect a valued and irreplaceable resource. Secondly are the administrative functions. TVNZ required a facility that ensured quick and effective access to archival material to address both local and global demand for news footage and other production needs

Since completion, the Archive has been internationally acclaimed and is recognized as being the best of its type worldwide.
