After winning a limited competition run by the Franklin District Council, ASC Architects was commissioned to design the Franklin Centre in Pukekohe. The councils judging panel, chaired by University of Auckland Professor of Architecture John Hunt, commented that ASC Architects scheme provided an appropriate statement of the civic and community significance of the Franklin Centre.
The project comprised a new library, an art and community centre and a cafe, all arranged around a major new public open space.
