The extended and upgraded Gisborne courthouse now provides a more attractive and workable facility, and the refurbished exterior enhances the local streetscape.
The entry is clearly signaled with a new canopy and glazed walls placed between strong vertical elements. To the North East elevation the potentially black wall of the staircase has between enlivened simply, with the cladding arranged in a geometric manner Construction is robust and economical, with meal "corrugated" cladding , fibre cement sheeting to the exterior on a timber frame, lightened with areas of curtain wall glazing.
The new colour scheme helps to illustrate the architectural forms. But more significantly it provides a friendly environment, hopefully helping mitigate the stressful situations that proceedings at these institutions invariably generate.
