ESKDALE HALL
Alongside existing school buildings a delightful corrugated steel "barn" has been designed to nestle snugly into its picturesque setting beneath an oak tree. A small multi-funticonal school/community hall, the building is derived from mixed rural origins. The stepping roof and the playful exterior colour scheme memorably enliven the simple form, while the straight-forward interior treatments lend a charm reminiscent of colonial school buildings.

The Eskdale Hall, when pitted against over thirty other buildings representing the best architecture in New Zealand, went on to be honoured with prestigious NZIA-Resene National Award for Architecture.

On an impossible budget of $120,000, the challenge for PMA was to do more with less; maximize space, minimum cost and to create a "happy" building which the children could relate to and enjoy.
