BP PAPAKURA, MSA
ASC Architects worked as part of a team headed by URS Greiner to design and develop the first motorway service centre for BP Oil in New Zealand. This concept was already well tested in other parts of the world and proven successful. We were primarily involved in the development of the site planning and then in the detailed design and delivery of the retail building. This motorway service area offers a broader range of services and products to motorists without the need to actually leave the motorway system.
The site provides fuelling facilities for cars, diesel for heavy trucks, drivers rest facilities, retail opportunities, restaurant and cafe facilities, truck driver amenities and campervan services.
The service station has received special media attention because of the extensive use of solar panels on the roof as a means of electricity generation for the site. This is an initiative that BP is also pursuing for its other sites.
