TVNZ separately engaged DSA as project managers to deliver the Television Archives project.
An approved a project budget set at $7m, could not be exceeded under any circumstances. Completion of the project was required within one year requiring an accelerated design and construction delivery programme. These constraints were further complicated by the realisation that a facility of this type had never been attempted before. The importance on achieving a successful design solution was paramount.
Project delivery was structured into logical, overlapping stages requiring considered programming and integration of all team member inputs.
Immediate focus was required to ensure appropriate time frames were established to facilitate completion of the brief, research, and value management review. Concurrently, the contractor was appointed at an early stage to ensure appropriate input into design was achieved. Close attention was given to establish an informed project cost plan that became an essential benchmark to monitor project delivery.
TVNZ established a Steering Group Committee, chaired by DSA, charged with overseeing all aspects of the project.
The project was successfully completed ahead of schedule and under budget. This successful outcome was a result of establishing a culture of teamwork between client, contractors and consultants.
TVNZ and DSA were delighted to receive an NZIA Award for Architecture, recognising not only excellence in design but also outstanding project delivery.
